Our group consisted of 3 generations-from age 70 to age 10. We all enjoyed the cottage and were very comfortable. There was plenty to do. When the weather was warm, we went to the beach where the girls played volleyball and skip ball in the water; when it was chilly, we played tennis, watched movies on the TV in the living room or played cards and games around the dining room table. The kitchen is well stocked and we fixed some great meals during the week. We loved the big refrigerator with ice dispenser in the door. The cottage is a nice combination of vintage charm and modern conveniences. It has everything you could want, but what we liked most was the lake view.

We spent a week at Buzzard’s roost and are planning to come back! We were so content with the beach and cabin, that the only place we visited was the grocery store and the farmer’s market! We especially enjoyed the view, the sunsets, the privacy and the grill on the large back deck. Every day we walked to the beach at least twice and used the beach gear and that Buzzard’s Roost provides so we didn’t have to pack extra items from home. We loved the old style 1920s designed cabin with the loft beds, but appreciated the updated kitchen and bathrooms. We were able to comfortably fit our family of 5 and host guests for the one day in the cabin when the weather was not ideal. In addition, Dawn, the owner is accomodating and available if needed.

My family and I were looking for Lake Michigan get-away and Buzzard’s Roost exceeded all of our expectations. This place is a gem. It has all of the charm of an early 1900’s beach cottage but has been extensively updated with luxurious and tasteful decor. The two decks are spectacular—views of both Lake Michigan and Pigeon Lake Inlet. We spent the majority of our non-beach time enjoying the wonderful lake breeze and stunning scenery. We grilled most of our dinners on the top-of-the-line Weber gas grill and enjoyed the kitchen stocked with high quality dishware, pots, pans, etc. Close to the bike trails, we rode to Grand Haven, Spring, Lake and Holland right from the cottage. Several mornings I walked a few steps down to Pigeon Lake and threw a line in to see what was biting. When the sun got warm we took the four-wheel “Gator” (loaded with beach chairs, cooler, umbrella, etc.) right to the association’s private beach. After the sun went down we played cards, visited or went to the beach where fire pits were waiting for us with wood supplied by the association. The beds were marvelous—not old mushy mattresses from years gone by but high quality bedding—really comfortable. Our group included family in their late teens to early 20’s and they had a fantastic time. I’m sure groups with little ones would have a blast also. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay an extra week. I highly recommend Buzzard’s Roost to any family or individuals that want the true Michigan cottage experience. Dawn is a lovely host and she truly delivered an unforgettable vacation for us.

We just returned from a week at Buzzard’s Roost with our 3 boys (7 year old twins, and a 2 1/2 year old). The house itself was very well maintained, stocked with ALL of our needs, and had everything for a great week at the beach! There were beach umbrellas, chairs, towels, sand toys...and even a way to get it all down to the beach with the Gator! There’s an amazing lake view from the two decks, and we watched the sun set over the lake every night from the house.
This is the second time we’ve been to West Olive, and we are returning again next June. It’s a perfect place to vacation with your significant other or with your family. There are so many parks, great biking paths, and lots of fun activities in Grand Haven and Holland- all within minutes of Buzzard’s. There’s also a party store right around the bend that has all kinds of last minute needs so you don’t have to go into a larger town.
The association beach is one of the nicest, largest beaches we’ve seen in Michigan. We’ve never seen it crowded. In fact, we are often one of the only families on the beach! One of our favorite activities are fires on the beach and smore-making with the boys. There are fire rings and firewood provided.
We stayed an entire week at Buzzard’s, and we wish we could have stayed longer! We highly recommend this property!

This place is awesome. It has a lot of personality, it’s very comfortable, and it has so much to offer.
The master bedroom is quite a large room and it features a nice, comfortable king sized bed. It also has a full-sized master bath that includes a washer and dryer. There’s a coffee-maker, television, and dvd player available, too. You can go out on the balcony of the master bedroom and sit and have your coffee at the table and chairs provided and just enjoy the beautiful scenery you have around you.
The main floor is very inviting. It has a full kitchen including dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator. It has a cozy sitting area that has a television available and the dining area has a large table with ample seating. There is a bath and a half bath on the main floor. Both bathrooms are nicely done.
The french doors off of the kitchen lead to the deck. The deck is quite a nice size and features a grill along with a kick-butt table and chairs. When we weren’t at the beach, galavanting in town, or taking a walk, this is where we spent our time. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous. The deck is very peaceful. It’s a nice place to sit and have a cup of coffee or just plain sit to read a book. (Incidentally, there are quite of few books at this property for your enjoyment.)
I don’t even know how to begin describing the upper floor to you. It’s really something you need to see. There are two stairways to the upper floor, one on each side of the house. The beds are very comfortable, and if my memory serves me right, there are some nice dressers up there too.
The cottage is charming. I like it very much. It’s just a few minutes drive to Grand Haven or Holland. It’s a short walk to the beach, and the scenery around it is wonderful.
Jim & I LOVED the Buzzard’s Roost!
The cottage is impeccably maintined and one will be overwhelmed by the quality of all furnishings. Some of the offerings are: LARGE flat screen TV, Blue Ray player and for you grillers...a KILLER Weber, gas grill! There are books to read, board/card games for children, access to a private beach which has a fire pit!
The view from the main deck is gorgeous, with a beautiful glimps of Lake Michigan.
One feels as if they are secluded but the location is a short 12/15 mile drive to Grand Haven or Holland, making sight seeing, shopping and dining convenient.
Grand Haven offers a Downtown area with many various shops and resturants plus the Marina which has events scheduled. You can take a stroll to the lighthouse or just watch the waves.
Holland offers Windmill Island Gardens or photograph the big,red lighthouse, visit the Holland Museum or have breakfast or lunch at The Wooden Shoe Resturant!
As you can see, we really enjoyed our time, not only in the Grand Haven/Holland area, but mostly the BUZZARD’S ROOST!
Please come and see for yourself...I PROMISE, you will NOT be disappointed!
